Bermuda Trip, August 2018

Bermuda

Since this was a cruise, we only had 3 days to fully experience Bermudan culture. The majority of the trip was spent on the ship, but nonetheless it was a fun time. When on land, it was clear why Bermuda has been such a popular tourist area for such a long time. Not only was the temperature nice and warm, but the landscape was beautiful.

When we first stepped off the boat, we decided to go to the crystal caves. The next day we went to the famous Warwick Long Bay. The final day in Bermuda was spent on a catamaran. Each of these activities took up the whole day. While we did explore the tourist gift shops and expensive Hilton Hotels, they were mere side-excursions that didn't really impact the trip too much.

Crystal Caves
The crystal caves were very interesting and beautiful. We started off by a couple of hundred feet down through a rock tunnel which then opened into the area with the crystals. The ceiling was lined with the crystals and they looked more like calcified icicles than crystals. The water was exceptionally clear and blue. Crystals also emerged from the ground underneath the water, sometimes making contact with the crystals dangling from the top of the cave. Pillars were made from the crystals and it was absolutely amazing.

Pink Sand Beach

The pink sand beach was not neon as I had imagined, but the sand did have a pinkish tint. The sand was surprisingly not burning hot like the sand at most other beaches. The water was also a beautiful turquoise color and was not cold in the slightest. This beach was probably the best beach I had ever been to and a great place to snorkel. The water was not turbid at all and you could see the ground 20 feet below. The tropical fish were not present until we fed them with fruit loops but swarmed when we began to feed them. There was also a few large rocks that we could jump off.

Catamaran and Snorkel

The catamaran was relaxing. We started off by sitting on the mesh netting up front and started sailing. We eventually got to the cove where we would stay for the rest of our time on the excursion. The water was nice and blue still, but clear as well. This was a similar experience to that of the beach. The water was the same and we were once again blessed with good weather. We jumped off the top of the boat and we also jumped off of a small cliff leading into the water. After a few hours of pure relaxation, everyone was called back onto the boat as we departed. It was very fun overall.
